When I was in college, one of my favorite bands was Hall and Oats. I knew all their songs by heart, and waited in very long lines to see them in person. So when I saw the preview of this new show from Defiance Comedy I was hooked.
The premise is simple. Our heroes are 80’s rock stars who also travel back in time to the 1940’s to solve crimes. There’s murder, intrigue, and more than a few 1940’s dames in distress as they stumble on inspiration for their musical hits. That all makes sense, right? Sure the premise is silly, just go with and you will have fun.
Like previous shows from Defiance Comedy there’s lots of physical comedy, clever puns, great costumes and wonderful song parodies. They had the audience laughing and more than once singing along. Of course it does help if you are familiar with the songs of Hall and Oats, so find them on your Pandora station and listen to a few. ( Hint Rich Girl and Man eater would be good first choices).
There are so many great bits but I especially loved when our heroes called the future looking for help and chatted with other rock stars including Cher, Cindy Lauper and Elton John. You have to keep flipping your attention between the two parts of the stage so you don’t miss some of the subtle and not so subtle physical comedy.
As a Hall and Oats fan I was sure to love this, but even if you have never heard of them Defiance Comedy will turn you into one.
There is some adult language and content, so leave very young children at home and come and enjoy the Time Traveling Detectives.
