Ready for a fun evening?  Grab some friends and head to Mass Ave for dinner and a full-length play at Indy Fringe:  Hell’s 4th Ring: The Mall Musical. Sophia the new girl soon learns that things are amiss at the Mall.  Can Hell’s Gate Mall suck the life out of your soul?  A little mayhem, murder and romance and lots of laughter. From the bar enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and enjoy the performance! Have you ever worked retail or known some who has?  This play is for you.

A cross between a melodrama and a Broadway musical. I loved the Goth-inspired Mall rats reminiscent of the chorus in a Shakespeare play. Each character was each well defined: Chelsea the shoe girl, Lars the mall cop and long-timer Brian. Is the creepy guy hawking bourbon chicken in the food court benign or malevolent?

Some great lines:

  • Why am I selling polyester blends?
  • What’s your favorite hobby? Drugs.
  • Bourbon chicken.

Well done Catalyst Repertory! Catalyst is based in Indy and focuses on novelty, new plays and new takes on old shows. Hell’s 4th Ring marks their 20th Production.  Hell’s 4th Ring [The Mall Musical] is the brain-child of local playwright Casey Ross and musician and actor Davey Pelsue. Davey certainly deserves a shout out for the musical and score and lyrics!

A few minor sound issues but it was opening night and not enough to discourage me from giving Hell’s 4th Ring an awesome recommendation

Two thumbs up!

Hells 4th Ring: The Mall Musical is a winner. I was fully in with the first song, Welcome to Hell’s Gate: Where dreams die.  A robust song and dance featuring the entire cast Funny, well executed and energetic.

Reserve your tickets now at Indy Fringe.  February 9-25, 2018. Hell’s 4th Ring Playwright: Casey Ross Music: Davey Pelsue
