So, what do you say about a show that’s different every, single, time? Do you say – it will be different? How about it will entertaining, you’ll laugh, and a good time will be had by all, including the performers. Yea, I can say all the because you will have fun. Stroopwafel, is fun. I’m pretty sure Stoopwafel means having fun in German. 2001: An Improv Odyssey is fun.
Disney Comes Alive
The improv team comes on stage and introduces the improv concept. This troupe relies on the audiences to set the scene, you’ve seen Whose Line Is It Anyway? Right? The first audience assignment was to name a Disney animated movie. The Beauty and the Beast was suggested. I know some of you will find this difficult to believe, but I’ve never seen the movie. So, it was all new to me. The MC added an interesting twist. The first improv included four of the players, then three were asked to perform the same scene, then two, and finally one member played all the parts. My favorite character was the candle. Was there a talking candle in the movie?
What Are Cheese Curls Anyway?
The next bit was a longer form take on a movie. Once again, the audience was asked for suggestions. The movie was titled … Cheese Curls. Scenes included, cow milking, chicken plucking, and arm wrestling. My favorite line in the bit was, “You do weird things to cows.” And I can’t describe the part where one cast member, on all fours played Bessie the cow who is milked and then artificially inseminated. I couldn’t make this up – they did.
