If you have a fondness for female ballads and classic Broadway, these leading ladies are your winners. They provided a wide range of shows, styles, and characters. Most tunes were classic Broadway, but there were some more recent additions, such as Wicked and Hamilton.
The performance takes you through a series of songs, trios, duets, and solos. Each lady has her moment to shine, both literally and figuratively. It may seem odd to note, but their wardrobe choices gave a sense of continuity. It was always black with some kind of sequined sparkle, but each outfit lent a different personality to each tune.
Of the many songs performed, some highlights would be “In His Eyes” from Jekyll and Hyde, “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls, “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, and “Gimme Gimme” from Thoroughly Modern Millie. It also should be noted that their three-piece band provided exceptional accompaniment when you consider these songs usually have a full pit orchestra to support them.
Broadway was brought to life by these lovely ladies, and each had her own unique style and voice. It made them individually interesting and collectively very powerful. These women were intent on showcasing the who’s who of women on Broadway.
