The Dance Kaleidoscope show “New/Next/Now” immediately made my IndyFringe must-see list; I caught the dance company’s performance last year and couldn’t wait to watch them take the stage at Theatre on the Square on Saturday afternoon.
During the Opening Night performer showcase, Jillian Godwin explained the show’s premise and reminded the audience to get tickets early due to expected sell out… Take her advice. I caught their matinee show and it was packed.
The show includes seven individual pieces that are choreographed by seven different dancers. This creates an absolutely mesmerizing display of artistic excellence; each dance has different music, dancers, and costumes. Even more than that, each dance is unique and personal to the dancer that put it together. I really liked learning a little about the inspiration and meaning behind the piece from the choreographer, too.

All seven choreographed numbers are well done. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a tie between “Sovereignty” and “State of Grace.” The first has impeccable costumes and absolutely stunning movement; the second literally had tears rolling down my face.
