Orgasmo Adulto Escapes From the Zoo”, at the Oasis Theatre opened last weekend to great reviews. There are three remaining performances. Tuesday at 6:00, Wednesday at 7:30, and Saturday at 3:00.
Every performance is being interpreted for the Deaf. There is a deaf actor in our cast, (Anastasia Greenberg, performing a non-deaf role), who is making her stage debut. I believe this is the first time a deaf actor has appeared at the festival. Following the 6:00 Tuesday performance, NoExit is hosting a talkback with the public at Liberty Street. Many fringe festivals include workshops and talks, NoExit decided to test it out here. The talkback will also be interpreted.
The playwright, Franca Rame, and her husband Dario Fo, were recognized by the Nobel committee for their tireless work to promote democracy and women’s rights. Rame’s monologues were collected by Estelle Parsons in 1985, and presented at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre in New York. It is Parsons who gave the collection its titillating title.
NoExit Performance presents the monologues in a fast paced, Buffon-style, that pays homage to Franca Rame’s Commedia dell’arte family. It is definitely for adults only, but there is zero nudity and the monologues are more about gender roles than they are about sex.
