Tonight’s performance of VELOUR From Schedule C Productions still has me giggling. If you haven’t ventured from the well-beaten IndyFringe path a bit further south to the 300 block, make sure you do. It’s absolutely worth the short walk to the festival’s two new venues that are near plenty of free and paid parking options. If you haven’t been to an IndyFringe show yet, consider “VELOUR” for your first pick. It’s quirky, it’s musical, it’s well-written… it’s one of this year’s best.

Lounge is a very splendored thing, and Vinnie Velour has been close to the entertainment industry for 40 years as a driver to the stars. He has just started a career change from Professional Driver for Hire to Lounge Singer. The transition that follows is splendid. It includes a straight shooting booking agent from the Palace named Lux; she is smart and bit sassy with an open performer spot to fill. The show tells the story of the aspiring lounge singer finding himself in the spotlight. “VELOUR” also includes hilarious stories, spirited songs, and audience-selected variety acts that are performed based on which idea gets the most applause. I saw plate spinning, tightrope walking, and sword swallowing — it was awesome. You can purchase tickets for “VELOUR” at the Marott Center online, at theater box offices (cash only) and by phone. You can also purchase tickets from the Indy Fringe office. ONLY TWO PERFORMANCES LEFT – don’t miss this show!
